Pending higher education reform in Ukraine discussed at the WG4 meeting of the Ukrainian NP

The WG4 “Contacts between People” of the Ukrainian NP met on 6 June 2013 in order to discuss youth volunteers’ issues and educational issues.

The WG decided to develop a position paper on draft laws on higher education pending in the Parliament to emphasise that the new law should contain provisions on the movement towards a European educational space, a high school graduation examination system and provide for real autonomy for universities. To facilitate the recognition of informal education in Ukraine, it was decided to hold public discussions to define the meaning of the term “informal education”.

The WG also focused on some problematic paragraphs of the Law on volunteering, which de facto block the participation of foreign volunteers in projects and programmes. The participants agreed to lobby jointly for an amendment of the law.
