SC Member Krzysztof Bobinski meets with Commissioner Hahn in Warsaw

Tagged under Steering Committee

EaP CSF Steering Committee member Krzysztof Bobinski met with new Neighbourhood Commissioner Johannes Hahn in a joint meeting with representatives of Polish NGOs and Think Tanks in Warsaw this week. The meeting took place in the frames of Mr. Hahn’s official visit to Poland, the main purpose of which was the consolidation of the Eastern Partnership initiative.

During the meeting, Mr. Hahn focused on outlining the EU’s approach to the European Neighbourhood including most prominently the future of the Eastern Partnership initiative. The ongoing situation in Ukraine and EU-Russia relations also took centre-stage in the discussions.

Despite the successful signature of Association Agreements, including DCFTAs with Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, Mr. Hahn expressed the need to revise the European Neighbourhood Policy in light of a “dramatically changed environment”, voiced in a press release covering his official visit to Poland.

“The ‘ring of friends’ has changed into a "ring of fire" and attention has also to be paid to the "neighbours of the neighbours". Due to the crises and conflicts in our neighbourhood, the ENP has moved right to the centre of the EU's Foreign and Security Policy.” said Mr. Hahn in the press release, which called for a revision of the ENP along principles of differentiation, exclusiveness and flexibility.

Mr. Hahn further re-affirmed the commitment of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and looked forward to input at the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga this May.

Mr. Bobinski is Co-Chair of the EaP CSF Steering Committee Coordinator of Working Group 1 on Democracy, Human Rights, Good Governance and Stability following his recent election to the position at last November’s annual assembly.
