The European Endowment for Democracy - a driver for change?

In the margins of the Working Group 1 Meeting on 14 May a discussion on "The European Endowment for Democracy - a driver for change?" will be conducted. The panel will look at the European Endowment for Democracy (EED), a new institution, which aims to promote democracy in the EU neighbourhood. It will examine the methods which the EED will be using and look at the role which non-governmental organisations might play in building a democratic culture in states which are in transition from authoritarian regimes.

The key discussants will be:

  • Mr Jerzy Pomianowski, the Executive Director of the EED and Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland
  • Mr Edward McMillan-Scott, Head of the European Parliament Democracy Caucus
  • Ms Vera Rihackova, Senior Research Fellow at EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy
  • Ms Orysia Lutsevych, Independent Analyst, Chatham House Robert Bosch Fellow (2012)

  • Jeff Lovitt, Executive Director of PASOS.
