Moldova: a narrow win for pro-Europeans


In his paper, Mr. Popescu presents an overview of the results of the recent parliamentary elections in Moldova, analyzing the decline in popularity of the pro-EU camp, which, although winning the elections, lost ground to the Socialist Party. The article further examines the prospects for the pro-EU coalition and the implications of these election results for Moldova’s European vector.

According to his analysis, limited job creation, an ineffective fight against corruption and the information war emanating from the Russian Federation were the main challenges faced by the pro-EU camp in the run-up to the elections.

Notwithstanding, Mr. Popescu maintains that Moldova is moving further down the European path: “ the outcome of the elections shows once again that, despite all odds, Moldova can still come to represent a success story in the east ..”
