Call for Applications - Workshop for Filmmakers from Eastern Partnership Countries

The Directors Across Borders (DAB) project is currently accepting applications for a Story Development Workshop for feature films which will take place in Yerevan, Armenia, 6-10 May 2013. The Workshop will focus on the creative aspects of story development and will help to provide emerging scriptwriters, producers and directors the fundamental skills to create more engaging cinematic stories and package them in ways that will make them more competitive in the global film market

The Story Development Workshop is not an entry level screen writing course. Participants are expected to understand the fundamentals of script writing prior to attending the workshop. Instead, the Workshop will focus on strengthening the skills and knowledge of the participants in two areas of story development: (1) creating more dynamic and engaging stories, (2) packaging these stories to attract the financial and other forms of support necessary to bring them to the screen.

The Workshop will be conducted in English and will be composed of lectures, case studies, group work and one-to-one meetings. Topics covered will include:

  • characters and dramatic structure, writing genre;
  • script analysis;
  • storytelling in the era of converging media;
  • adapting novels and short stories for the screen;
  • the business of development and funding opportunities;
  • managing creativity/creative management, the art of packaging and pitching.

The Workshop is free, including lodging, meals and transportation to and from an Eastern Partnership country to Armenia. However, space is limited and applicants will be selected on a competitive basis.
