Georgian National Platform Meets Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection12 April 2016
On 8 April 2016 together with the Office of the State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, the Georgian National Platform organized a sectoral meeting between the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia and the Georgian National platform, pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Government of Georgia (GoG) and the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum (EaP CSF) Georgian National Platform. The representatives of the Ministry emphasized the significance of cooperation with the non-governmental sector, its maximum involvement in the implementation of the Association Agenda, and expressed their readiness to continue meetings in dialogue format. The meeting was attended by Teimuraz Murghulia, the First Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia; Gizo Chelidze, Head of the Sustainable Development and EU Integration Policy Division of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia; Archil Karaulashvili, First Deputy State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration; Kakha Gogolashvili, Chairman of the Georgian National Platform; Lasha Tughushi, Coordinator of the Georgian National Platform and representatives of the National Platform member organizations. At the meeting the Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia and the Head of the Division conducted a brief presentation on activities related to environmental protection implemented under the Association Agreement and future plans. The representatives of the Georgian National Platform shared their opinions and suggested specific proposals. Issues related to the deadline for implementation of the Association Agreement, shoreline protection works, the Forest Code, the Water Law, biogeographic zoning, environmental monitoring and air pollution, alternative energy, environmental impact assessment procedures and risk assessment were also discussed at the meeting. |
