Moldova's Research and Development Field to benefit from EU deal

Moldova’s Research and Development field is set to receive up to EUR 924,000 in financial assistance in the period of 2014-2015 following a deal finalized between the EU and Moldova’s Academy of Science on Monday, 25 August

This deal is part of efforts to support Moldova’s active participation in the EU’s programme for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020 in a bid to encourage further modernization of the country within the framework of the EU association agreement.

“The Association Agreement is often referred to as a framework for reform and modernisation. The actions undertaken in the context of Horizon 2020 are related precisely to that” said Pirkka Tapiola, Head of the EU delegation to the Republic of Moldova.

In a statement to the European External Action Service, Mr Gheorghe Duca, President of Moldova’s Academy of Science  expressed his hope that the deal will “motivate the [Moldovan] government to provide more finance for research and innovation”.
