Conference: Overcoming Borders / The EU-Russia Dialogue on Visa Facilitation and Liberalization Report of the EU-Russia Civil Society Forum

The aim of the forthcoming event is to promote visa facilitation and liberalization processbetween the EU and Russia. The discussion will be based on the Report but not exclusively.

The Report is written by six international experts who worked on behalf of CSF:

• Yuri Dzhibladze, Center for Development of Democracy and Human Rights, Moscow

• Oleg Korneev, Marie Curie Fellow, Department of Politics, University of Sheffield

• Aigulle Sembaeva, German-Russian Exchange, St. Petersburg

• Peter Van Elsuwege, European Institute of GhentUniversity, Ghent

• Vadim Voynikov, EU Centre, BalticFederalUniversity, Kaliningrad

• Joanna Fomina, Stefan Batory Foundation, Warsaw

The discussion on the Report is an attempt to meet both perspectives on visa facilitation and liberalization dialogue between EU and Russia: the first – from EU-Russia CSF perspective which has a clear policy towards visa facilitation and eventual abolition in order to intensify people-topeople contacts.

The second is the perspective of Russian and EU politicians and officials who are participating in the complex political negotiations and may present the wide range of chances and obstacles on the way to visa liberalization. We hope the meeting of these two perspectives can become one of the factors stimulating and strengthening the EU-Russia visa dialogue.

Speakers:

  • For the panel discussion we also invited Mr Aleksey V. Klimov, Deputy Head of the Consular Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
  • Mr. Vygaudas Ušackas, Head of EU Delegation in Russia
