EaP CSF Welcomes the Conditional Release of Intigam Aliyev in Azerbaijan

The Eastern Partnership Civil Society welcomes the release of the Director of the Legal Education Society and a prominent human rights lawyer Intigam Aliyev in Azerbaijan. However, the decision by the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan is only the first step towards rectifying injustices incurred by Mr Aliyev who is yet to be cleared of all charges and other prisoners of conscience.

The Government of Azerbaijan should build on the momentum emanating from the release of Intigam Aliyev as well as the amnesties granted earlier this month, and take all necessary measures to strengthen democratic processes and to ensure unimpeded functioning of the civil society in Azerbaijan.
