Call for applications for technical assistance missions: Strengthening the Governance of Culture in Developing CountriesUNESCO is launching a new international call for applications for technical assistance missions in the framework of a project funded by the European Union, aimed at strengthening the system of governance for culture in developing countries. These missions will be based on the needs and priorities of the beneficiary countries and will be undertaken by top experts in the field of cultural policies. The missions will support the beneficiary countries in their efforts to establish legal, regulatory and/or institutional frameworks and/or introduce policies that address the role of culture in social and economic development, particularly through the cultural industries. Which countries can apply? All developing countries having ratified the UNESCO 2005 Convention and which are eligible beneficiary countries under the European Union thematic programme Investing in People can apply. The neighbourhood partner countries that can apply are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Georgia, Jordan, Moldova, Tunisia, and Ukraine. Who can apply? • Ministries, public institutions and public agencies in charge of culture or having a direct influence on the governance of culture, from the beneficiary countries above; • Local public authorities from the beneficiary countries above, if the field of activity to which the project is related has a direct impact on the governance of culture. Impact can be on a local or national level. To be eligible for consideration, applications must be received by the UNESCO Secretariat no later than: 24 November 2011 (midnight, CET). A similar call for applications for technical assistance missions was conducted earlier this year. Strengthening the System of Governance for Culture in Developing Countries is a UNESCO technical assistance project funded by the European Union, which contributes to the implementation of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. It aims to strengthen the system of governance for culture in developing countries and reinforce the role of culture as a vector for sustainable development and poverty reduction.
