Civil Society and Government Set to Work Together on pro-EU Reforms in Georgia

17 November 2015

EaP CSF Georgian National Platform will be working closely with the Georgian government on implementing the country’s Association Agreement (AA) with the EU, under a groundbreaking deal signed in Tbilisi on 13 November 2015.

The Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed by David Bakradze, Georgia’s European and Euro-atlantic integration Minister and Lasha Tugushi, the chair of the Georgian National Platform, commits both sides to working together to implement Georgia’s AA.

This is the first time a National Platform of the Civil Society Forum has established a formal agreement with a government in the Eastern Partnership. The MoC foresees the two sides ‘planning, implementing and monitoring’  AA action plans and sets a new standard in the relations between the government and civil society in an Eastern Partnership country.

"By signing the Memorandum, we once again manifest our strong will to support and ensure the maximum and effective engagement of Civil Society", David Bakradze said. He added that "bearing the burden of the challenges of integration is unimaginable without the support of Civil Society".

The signing ceremony was attended by Janos Herman, the head of the EU Delegation to Georgia.
