EU condemns parliamentary and presidential elections in eastern Ukraine

The European Union has said it will not recognise the November 2 parliamentary and presidential elections in Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, calling the vote illegal and illegitimate.

In her statement, High Representative Mogherini claimed that the elections are “a new obstacle towards peace in Ukraine”, which contravene the spirit of the Minsk Protocol established to find a sustainable solution to the crisis in the country.

“The aspiration for peace can't be only a political statement, it requires political will and good faith. I hope all parties will reaffirm their commitment to the Minsk Protocol, and will act coherently in order to implement it fully in all its parts.” added the new High Representative.
