Inaugural meeting of the Conference of Regional and Local Authorities of the Eastern Partnership and the EU

Conference of the Regional and Local Authorities for the Eastern Partnership (CORLEAP).

The European Commission invited the Committee of the Regions (CoR) to establish a platform for dialogue between local and regional authorities from the partner countries and the EU. The CoR decided in 2011 to set up such a body, the Conference of the Regional and Local Authorities for the Eastern Partnership (CORLEAP). Its inaugural meeting will take place in Poznań (Poland) on 8 September 2011. The meeting will be opened by European Neighbourhood Policy Commissioner Štefan Füle and chaired by Committee of the Regions President Mercedes Bresso.

Discussions will focus on how to promote direct cooperation between the EaP partners at the regional and local level and how to draw on the experience and mechanism of EU economic and social policies.

CoR President Bresso will then present the conference recommendations to heads of state and government at the bi-annual Eastern Partnership summit, scheduled for 29-30 September 2011 in Warsaw.
