Recommendations to improve visa facilitations drafted by sub-group at annaual meeting

The visa sub-group suggested to improve the current regulations of visa facilitation provided by the EU Visa Code and Visa Facilitation Agreement between the EU and third countries. In this regards recommendations were developed and presented during the sub-group meeting.

 The visa facilitation sub-group meeting

29 June 2012

The members of the visa facilitation sub-group discussed their current projects on visa policy as well as future activities within. On the basis of the discussion – which included the results of monitoring initiatives in two areas: visa issuance by the EU consulates and fulfilment of criteria necessary for a visa-free regime with the EU by EaP states carried out by participant organisations – the sub-group agreed to take the following steps.

Strict visa regimes remain the most visible and sensitive obstacle for regular people-to-people contacts across Europe. Independent civil society monitoring initiatives show a variety of problems which legitimate travellers face when applying for visas, including ever-growing lists of documents required, unclear criteria of visa granting/refusal, low rate of long-term visas, non-respect of rules and provisions of the EU Visa Code and Visa Facilitation Agreements signed with some EaP states.s.
